Acupuncture

Expected Outcomes of Acupuncture: Health improvement, disease prevention, treatment of pain of any type or origin, treatment of most women's health problems, treatment of diseases ranging from mild to medium severity in conjunction with naturopathy, treatment of serious diseases in conjunction with naturopathy and conventional medicine (including prescription drugs or surgery).

How Acupuncture Works: Acupuncture has more than 5000 years of history. It involves insertion of extremely fine needles into therapeutic points called acupuncture points. There are more than 360 such points identified on the human body. They all have different therapeutic effects. Usually a combination of 3 to 10 points are selected following a thorough diagnostic procedure including pulse and tongue diagnosis. Therefore the selection of acupuncture points is different from pathology to pathology and from person to person.

Acupuncture treatments are gentle and highly effective. The needles cause only a mild sensation after insertion. This sensation is an important sign, as it indicates that the acupuncture point is activated and that the treatment is effective. However, if you have a strong aversion to needles, acupuncture points can be stimulated with microcurrent probes. This method is just as effective as traditional needle acupuncture. During acupuncture sessions you will receive guided relaxation and visualization to help resolve the stress and emotional aspects often associated with a physical problem. After a treatment you may feel slightly light headed, soft, wanting to relax or 'curl up' on a couch.

Acupuncture has long tradition in successfully treating painful conditions. However, the scope of acupuncture is much wider than treating pain. Numerous clinical trials have proved its effectiveness in treating female infertility and other women's health problems. After more than 40 years clinical experience in the West, its effectiveness in many other health conditions has been demonstrated and documented.

Conventional Medicine

The father of modern medicine, Hippocrates, originally intended that the body be treated as a whole, rather than a series of parts and symptoms. He used surgery, herbalism and naturopathy to support healing. He also believed in the natural healing process of rest, a good diet, fresh air and cleanliness.

Modern medicine shifted away from this approach and began treating a wide variety of diseases with powerful drugs, such as antibiotics. These drugs can be credited with saving millions of lives through their ability to decrease our susceptibility to infections.

Today, however, there is growing trend to revert to Hippocrates' original intention of treating the whole person.  This means modern medicine may be used alongside natural therapies of various kinds, such as lifestyle management, acupuncture and massage.

The Reach for Health general practitioners use modern drugs when necessary. Before they make a final diagnosis, however, they also consider diet, exercise, lifestyle and other factors that may be contributing to the cause of symptoms.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a gentle, safe and effective form of healthcare that not only focuses on relieving pain but also promoting optimum health and wellbeing.

Through your nervous system you coordinate all of your body’s functions and movement and your spine encases the main column of your nervous system. Tension, misalignments or altered movement of your spine distort the essential information that your nervous system is providing to your body. This can have dramatic effects on your health and wellbeing. These misalignments can form in response to physical, mental, emotional and chemical stresses and can be exacerbated by the stresses of everyday life.

Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners and do not require a referral, except in the case of Department of Veterans' Affairs cases and those referred on an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Chiropractic attracts rebates through private health insurance funds.

Using various gentle adjusting and soft tissue techniques, Chiropractic has been shown to be effective for the following:

Dr Tweddle is also a certified Graston Technique practitioner. Graston Technique is an instrument assisted soft tissue technique that uses stainless steel instruments to detect and breakdown scar tissue that has accumulated in the body and is restricting normal function. Scar tissue and fibrous adhesions limit range of motion, and in many instances cause pain, which prevent the patient from functioning as he or she did before the injury. Graston Technique is beneficial for the following conditions and many more:

Graston Technique works extremely well in conjunction with your regular chiropractic adjustments to restore optimum function and range of motion to your body. For more information on Graston Technique go to www.grastontechnique.com

Naturopathy

Expected Outcomes of Naturopathy: Health improvement; disease prevention; treatment of diseases ranging from mild to medium severity; treatment of serious diseases in conjunction with conventional medicine (including prescription drugs or surgery).

How Naturopathy Works: Naturopathy or Naturopathic medicine includes Clinical Nutrition and Herbal Medicine. Most mild to medium medical conditions can be treated effectively with appropriate diet, nutritional supplements, and lifestyle changes. So, initially, your naturopath may prescribe two or three nutritional complexes and help you make some changes in your lifestyle. If your health problems are too far advanced to be treated by nutrition only, your naturopath may prescribe herbal complexes to further support your healing process.

Since an optimal nutritional state is essential for healing, professionally prescribed naturopathic supplements may be helpful in virtually any medical condition.

Psychology

Everyone at some point in their lives is likely to be faced with life challenges or situations that can leave them feeling overwhelmed or mentally and emotionally drained. Although it can be helpful to talk to a trusted friend, you may feel more comfortable confiding in someone who is removed from your personal situation and therefore is more objective. A psychologist can talk you through as well as provide techniques to deal with a whole range of issues or problems. Our psychologist is trained to apply a wide range of methods to assess your needs for treatment and to develop programs of therapy.

Our service aims to promote the highest standards in the application of psychological knowledge to help people achieve change in their lifestyle or habits that can correct health problems and result in more productive living. This includes controlling fears and destructive emotional thoughts, making more sense of various situations such as relationships, managing demands of home, work and family life, finding ways of feeling more in control, dealing better with distressing thoughts and feelings, and looking at how to harness your existing strengths in coping with things. Our psychologist may also help with psychological techniques for dealing with physical symptoms as well as complex grief reactions, such as prolonged grieving.

At our Centre one-to-one consultations are available. You and your partner, or you and family members can also talk with our psychologist to work through issues that are concerning you.

Homoeopathy

Homoeopathy is a therapy based on the theory of treating “like with like”.  Homoeopaths treat a patient's symptoms by giving a highly diluted form of a substance, animal, vegetable, or mineral, which, if taken in a crude dose, would cause similar symptoms when given to a healthy person.  In a consultation a Classical Homoeopath will take into account a range of physical, emotional and lifestyle factors.

Homoeopathy was developed over 200 years ago and is used worldwide.  It is acknowledged by the World Health Organisation as a valid form of health care.  Its effectiveness has been clearly established by over 200 years of clinical experience and has a pharmacy of over 2000 remedies, which are non-toxic and non-addictive, due to their method of preparation. Homoeopathy is also very cost effective.

What conditions can homeopathy treat?

The system of homoeopathy is based on the selection of a remedy which would cause symptoms in a healthy person similar to those that the patient is experiencing.  This ‘Law of Similars', as it is called, is a practical method of finding the substance to which a person is sensitive.  Wherever an individual's symptoms can be obtained, a condition can be treated.  For example, headaches in different patients could each be treated with different medicines, according to the patient's individual symptoms. Therefore, homoeopathy can treat a wide range of chronic and acute illnesses.

Who uses it?

The majority of patients seeking homoeopathic treatment have already utilised the conventional medical system for their complaint.  Therefore, it is not uncommon for patients to come to a first consultation with a confirmed medical diagnosis along with results of medical investigations.

Microcurrent Therapy

Expected Outcomes of Micro-current Therapy: Tissue healing after injury or surgery, various types of pain syndromes. Microcurrent stimulation of acupuncture points is just as effective as traditional needle acupuncture.

How Microcurrent Therapy Works: All matter radiates electromagnetic energy. The radiations emitted by the different organs of living tissues have specific characteristics such as frequency and wave shape. Microcurrent Therapy uses an electrical current that is compatible with the electro-magnetic field of the human body. The amount of electrical current is usually below our ability to feel or perceive.

When, for various reasons, the cells of the human body do not receive the appropriate strength and frequency of electrical current, they can't perform optimally. They won't produce ATP (cellular energy); therefore tissue healing, and metabolism as well as detoxification will slow down. Microcurrent Therapy, like a micro electric booster, provides the specific current that will correct that problem.

Some decades ago a laboratory trial shook the medical world by demonstrating that microcurrent (an extremely minute electrical current) applied to living tissue increases cellular energy production by 400% to 500%. Following this experiment, various clinical trials concluded that Microcurrent Therapy could increase the body's ability to heal and recover from injury by 200% to 300%, provided the appropriate frequency was applied. Since then, Microcurrent Therapy has become the most effective and gentlest method of boosting recovery from injuries and surgery, and reducing inflammation and pain.

At Reach for Health, we use a state of the art computerised microcurrent stimulator that is capable of treating 8 different parts of the body via microcurrent pads. It is also capable of reducing acute pain in minutes, when applied on the traumatized area via microcurrent probes.

If you have an aversion to needles, but would like to experience the benefits of acupuncture, then Microcurrent Therapy is for you.
